06 Jun Carols by Candlelight
On Sunday, 18 December 2011 a beautiful evening encouraged a large crowd to attend the ever popular Peppermint Grove Carols by Candlelight at Manners Hill Park. Families mingled, children played and picnics were eaten before Shire President, Rachel Thomas, welcomed all and the music began. PLC bagpipes provided a rousing start to the evening before an opening prayer from PLC’s Reverend Gary. Jenny Simpson expertly guided the audience through the programme with The Mighty Camelot Choir leading the crowd in singing, accompanied by the Salvation Army Band. Bonnie de la Hunty’s beautiful solo was a musical highlight of the evening.
Raffle tickets sold fast for the fabulous prizes provided by Andrea Pearson Pearls, Claremont Quarter, The Boatshed, Main Peak, Just Music and Vintage Cellars. The Carols by Candlelight Committee would like to thank these sponsors as well as Marty from Audio Visual and William Porteous Properties International, for their fantastic support.
The $5000 raised through the evening provides much needed funds to the Balga Early Learning Centre. This year one of the items the donation will fund is a phonics programme for their kindy children. This will assist the Centre in achieving its aim of allowing children in a low socio-economic area to lay strong foundations for their school years and reach their full potential.
After another successful evening bringing the community together, outgoing Chair of the Carols Committee, Jo Rezos, reflected, ”One of my main directives as chair person has always been to retain the reverence that can be felt when a community comes together to celebrate Christmas with the people they love. There is so much in our lives now that is excessive and the bells and whistles are just getting larger and louder. It has always been important to me to keep this event simple. It is about taking time out of our busy schedule to sing together at a time of the year when it seems important to be still for just a while. I feel that we have achieved this and it is an event that many families look forward to every year.”
In 2012, please join us when our Carols by Candlelight will be held on 16 December.
