01 Jun Get on Board Station Tour
In conjunction with Transperth and the Towns of Mosman Park, Claremont and Cottesloe, and as a result of the Age-friendly Communities’ Expo, the Shire coordinated a Get on Board Station Tour. Senior residents met on 23 May at the TAPSS offices in Cottesloe and the group boarded the train at Cottesloe Train Station. A very competent Transperth Education Officer, Carol-ann Prinsloo offered a unique opportunity to residents to interact with Transperth staff and learn the knowledge and develop the skills to become confident, active participants of public transport. Much interest was generated and the group learned about interesting aspects of train travel including how to use their Seniors card to travel for free, where the safety buttons and cameras are located on the station platforms and in the trains, and how to determine how many zones they would be travelling through. On arrival at Perth Train Station, residents made their way to the Art Gallery café where they were treated to refreshments before departing on the train back to Cottesloe Station. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the outing and many suggested that Station Tours be on offer again. Anyone wishing to participate in a Station Tour should contact Vanessa O’Brien on 9286 8600 at the Shire.
