Work is scheduled to commence on Monday 11 January 2021 (weather and contractor availability permitting) and is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete.

Working hours are between 7:00am - 5:00pm and include the following tasks:

  • Installation of new drainage pit lids
  • Footpath repairs
  • Sections of kerbing replacement
  • Profiling (grinding off the old pavement)
  • Road resurfacing with new asphalt
  • Line marking the new road

With the Water Corporation recently completing its long running underground pipe replacement project, the  Shire  is  now  in  a  position  to  re-seal  the  remaining  sections  of Johnston St that were not covered (ie: the entire eastbound lane). While the roadwork s contractors are onsite, the Shire is taking this opportunity to reseal all  boundary roads south of Johnston St as well the full length of Venn St as part of the FY20/21Capit al Works Program.

Additionally, the concrete median island at Cottesloe Primary School which no longer meets applicable design standards will be removed to make way for a guard-controlled, compliant pedestrian crossing to improve student safety.

Work has been scheduled for January/ February 2021to capitalise on the comparatively low traffic volumes experienced during the school holiday period with the aim of minimising disruption to residents and motorists.

Road closures and street parking restrictions will be in place at various times throughout this period in Johnston St, Monument St, Venn St, Harvey St, Solomon St, Palmerston St, View St, Butler Way and Bay View Tee, with detours set up around the work site as required however residents will still retain vehicular and pedestrian access to and from their property for the majority of time. Please note that for a large part of the project street parking will not be permitted on both sides of Johnston St as we are aiming to keep one lane open to traffic for the duration of works.

As the job progresses, you may receive further 'site specific' correspondence from the Shire or our contractors Roads 2000 with additional information relating directly to your property and the coming day's activities, so please remember to check your letter box each and every afternoon.

We will endeavour to keep noise and disruption to an absolute minimum, and I apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause you.

Thank you for your understanding and if you have any queries regarding these works, please contact the Shire's Manager of Infrastructure Services, Donovan Norgard, on 9286 8600.

Yours sincerely,

Don Burnett

Chief Executive Officer
