Verge Collection 2020

The Shire conducts a residential clean up program three times per year.

  • 6 & 7 April 2020 (just before Easter)
  • 24 & 25 August 2020
  • 14 & 15 December 2020 (done just before school breaks up)

The next dates for bulk rubbish collection will be:The Shire of Peppermint Grove’s ‘Bulk Waste Verge Collection’ service is for the pickup of general hard waste, greenwaste and whitegoods only.


All items for disposal are to be neatly placed on your front verge. Please be considerate with the placement of these items to ensure they do not obstruct the footpath or the line of sight for pedestrians, cyclists or vehicles.

  • Any goods placed out on the verge after the nominated time will not be collected and the contractor will not return for late pickups.
  • Strictly no waste is to be placed on the verge before the nominated date. Any material put out before this date will be treated as illegal dumping by the Shire Ranger.
  • All waste is to be placed at least 0.5 metre away from fences and 1 metre away from street trees.
  • Greenwaste and hard waste must be placed in clearly separate piles at least 1 metre apart.
  • The maximum amount of waste that will be collected from any property should not exceed 2 cubic metres (approximately one standard 6’ x 4’ trailer load).
  • Tree branches are to be no longer than 1.5 metres in length, 150mm in diameter and the cut ends are to be placed facing the street.
  • Loose material such as lawn clippings, small cuttings and leaves must be placed in sealed boxes or bags. Please note these will not be returned.
  • For child safety reasons all whitegoods such as fridges, freezers, washing machines, ovens etc MUST have the doors / lid removed.

The Shire and its Contractors will not collect the following:

  • Gas bottles
  • Vehicle parts, tyres or batteries
  • Paint, liquids of any description, oils, flammable materials, acids or solvents
  • Building materials, cement or cement products, bricks, sand, rubble, plate glass etc.
  • Asbestos
  • Food waste-this can be placed in your Food Organics bin.
  • Poisons, pesticides, medicines or other hazardous material
  • Mattresses or bed bases

However, most of these items can be taken to the West Metro Recycling Centre for recycling or safe disposal seven days a week

You can also dispose of certain bulky items outside of bulk collection times at the West Metro Recycling Centre.

How to Dispose of Certain Household Hazardous Waste

The West Metro Recycling Centre is your first stop to safely dispose of items that don’t belong in your kerbside bins, including difficult items like polystyrene, asbestos and mattresses. The good news is that most household hazardous waste (HHW) products, like empty gas cylinders, paint, acids and pesticides are accepted for free*.

*Domestic quantities only (20kg or 20L).
