Help Shape the Future of Peppermint Grove
In response to State Government declarations for urban infill development between Stirling Highway and View Street, the Shire is preparing a new Local Planning Strategy to guide its future population and economic growth over the next 10 to 15 years.
We are inviting residents, ratepayers and other interested parties to learn more about the Draft Strategy and share their views through a series of community workshops and online surveys.
Why is the Shire preparing a Local Planning Strategy?
Like all local governments, the Shire is required to plan for its future economic and population growth in line with State Government plans, policies, directions and planning reforms.
The new Local Planning Strategy will establish a long-term local planning framework that helps guide where future growth may occur, how it should be managed, and how the qualities that define Peppermint Grove as the Garden Shire can be balanced with that future growth.
This consultation is not about whether growth will occur, but how future growth should be managed and where it should be located. Community feedback will help finalise the Shire's Draft local planning strategy.
What is being proposed?
In response to State Government declarations for urban infill development, the Shire has assessed a range of growth scenarios between Stirling Highway and View Street, with a view to:
- accommodate future housing growth through higher residential densities
- respond to State Government urban infill plans and declarations
- balance the Shire’s heritage, character and high residential amenity with future growth
- conserve as much tree canopy as possible
