Fire Safety Preparation

Property owners are required to clear their properties by 1 November 2022 and maintain your property until 1 April 2023.
Cottesloe Bush Fire Control Officers will begin annual inspections of all properties in the Shire on 1 November 2022.

Prepare your property by November 1
Maintain your property until April 1

Each year the Shire sees owners of small properties mistakenly think fire requirements only apply to larger or rural properties. To comply with the following:

• Have the entire property clear of all flammable material, this does not include green standing trees, growing bushes and plants in gardens, and/or lawns.
• Mow, slash or use an approved alternative method to control grass and ground cover down to 50mm over the entire area of land.
• A four-metre firebreak is not adequate.
• Burning of garden refuse is not permitted under any circumstances.

When all property owners take action it collectively makes our community
safer from the impact of fire.

Don’t be caught our, fire can happen to anyone!
